Verification portal
Verify a Xene certificate.
Every certificate Xene has ever issued is listed in a public register. Enter the number printed on the holder, or scan the QR code on the label, to confirm authenticity and review the full item record — grade, issue date, grading site and archival photographs. Lookups are free and require no account.

Lookup
Enter your number.

The number is etched along the lower edge of the capsule; the QR code on the label resolves to the same register record.
How verification works
Four steps, two minutes.
- 01
Read the number
The certificate number is laser-etched along the lower edge of the holder in the format XENE-YYYY-XXXXXX, and encoded in the QR code on the label. Both resolve to the same register record.
- 02
Search the register
Enter the number in the portal above. The lookup queries the live public register — not a cached export — so a retired or superseded number is flagged as such immediately.
- 03
Compare the record
Check the item description, the discipline, the grade and the archival photographs against the item in your hand. Toning, rim detail and any noted defect should correspond exactly.
- 04
Check the holder
Finally, inspect the capsule itself: the shifting holographic seal, micro-text at the inner rim under 10× magnification, and the UV-reactive thread in the label stock.
The register record
Every field a buyer needs.
The record returned by the portal is the same record printed on the certificate and archived in our vault ledger. Nine fields, all of which should reconcile with the item in front of you.
| Field | Format | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Certificate number | XENE-YYYY-XXXXXX | Permanent, non-transferable, bound to one item and one capsule. |
| Item description | Full catalogue line | Denomination or title, date, mint or printer, catalogue reference (Spink, Krause, Scott, SG, Pick). |
| Discipline | One of five | Coins, bank notes, trading cards, stamps or rare books. |
| Numeric grade | e.g. MS 65 | Numeric grade with descriptive bracket, on the published house scale. |
| Sub-grades | Where applicable | Cards carry centring, corners, edges and surface. Notes carry EPQ and centring flags. |
| Issue date | ISO date | The date the certificate was struck and the capsule sealed. |
| Grading site | London or Paris intake | All grading is performed in London; Paris is an intake and consultation office. |
| Grader initials | Two or three graders | Every item is graded independently by at least two specialists, with a third on disagreement. |
| Archival photographs | Obverse & reverse | Shot at fixed focal length under standardised 5,000 K lighting at the moment of encapsulation. |
Holder security
Four features, independently checkable.
The register confirms the record. The capsule confirms the object has not been substituted. Check both.

Holographic seal
A sub-surface hologram set into the capsule wall, shifting from champagne to deep gold as the holder is tilted. It cannot be lifted or reapplied without destroying the capsule.
Micro-text rim
A continuous line of 0.15 mm text along the inner rim, repeating the certificate number and the year. Legible at 10×; illegible or broken on reproductions.
UV fibre thread
The label stock carries randomly distributed fibres that fluoresce cool blue under 365 nm. Absence of fluorescence is conclusive.
Laser-etched serial
Etched, never printed. Under raking light the etch shows depth. The serial must match the register record character for character.
Red flags
When to stop and call us.
Number returns no record
Treat as suspect. Do not transact. Certificates predating 2014 may be in digitisation — write to verify@xenecert.com to confirm.
Record does not match the item
A mismatch in date, mint mark, toning or noted defect indicates the item has been swapped out of a genuine holder.
Capsule shows a seam or reseal
Xene capsules are ultrasonically welded in one pass. Any visible seam, adhesive residue or heat distortion means the holder has been opened.
Grade appears altered
The printed grade on the label must match the register. A relabelled holder is a forgery, regardless of how convincing the capsule looks.
Suspected forgery? Write to verify@xenecert.com with the number and photographs. We investigate every report, at no cost, and notify the registered owner where one exists.
Questions
Verification, answered.
- How do I verify a Xene certificate?
- Enter the certificate number printed along the edge of the holder — format XENE-YYYY-XXXXXX — or scan the QR code on the label. The public register returns the item record instantly, including the awarded grade, the issue date, the grading site and the archival photographs taken at certification.
- What does the register record contain?
- The item description, the discipline, the numeric grade and its descriptive bracket, any sub-grades, the issue date, the grading site, the certifying grader's initials and the archival photographs made under standardised lighting at the moment of encapsulation.
- What if a certificate does not appear in the register?
- Certificates issued before 2014 may still be in digitisation. Write to verify@xenecert.com with the number and a photograph of the holder and we will respond within one working day. A number that returns no record and postdates 2014 should be treated as suspect and not transacted.
- Can a certificate number be reused or transferred?
- No. Each number is bound permanently to one item and one holder. If an item is reholdered — after damage to the capsule, or on a re-grade — the original number is retired in the register with a cross-reference to the successor number, so the chain remains auditable.
- How do I check the holder itself is genuine?
- The Xene capsule carries four independent security features: a sub-surface holographic seal that shifts from champagne to deep gold, micro-text along the inner rim readable at 10×, a UV-reactive fibre thread in the label stock, and the laser-etched serial that must match the register exactly.
- Does verification cost anything?
- No. Register lookups are free and unlimited for anyone — collectors, dealers, auction houses, insurers and buyers. No account is required.
- Is the register available to auction houses in bulk?
- Yes. Consignment departments can request a batch lookup for an entire sale. Write to office@xenecert.com with the certificate numbers and we return a signed manifest, normally within one working day.
